GW today recently cited the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs receiving of four awards totaling approximately $2.5 million from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Elliott School Dean Reuben E. Brigety II recently said, "The Carnegie Corporation has said that these awards are given in recognition of the Elliott School's position as the preeminent place to create policy-relevant research." 

Stephen Biddle's New Essay on the Washington Post's Monkey Cage Blog: "Here’s why we can only contain the Islamic State, not bomb it back to the Stone Age"

Prof. Stephen Biddle recently posted an essay on the Washington Post's Monkey Cage blog that assesses Western military options against the Islamic State. He argues that eliminating its ability to carry out Paris-style terrorism is a much more expensive proposition than many now suppose. Given that, we're going to be stuck with some version of containment for a long time to come.

Stephen Biddle, Professor of Political Science and International Affairs, will lead an in-depth discussion of U.S. policy and strategy for addressing the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq on Monday, December 7 at 12 noon in Elliott School's Lindner Family Commons (Room 602).
